2 Sharks – Wounded, Bleeding from the Hooks, Traumatised, unable to feed properly and hunt normally have been released 1 KM from Swim Beach – “Swimmers at Cottesloe have been advised to exercise caution. A 2.6m Tiger shark has been released 1km from shore by Dept Fisheries” it read.

“…”I wonder how safe South Fremantle beachgoers will feel knowing that there is a meat curtain in the form of baited hooks hanging 1km from their favourite beach, with a fisher waiting with a rifle to shoot any shark he interprets to be a bull shark, tiger shark or great white shark,” she said.”

PRESS RELEASE: #Cullin and #Hunt

A lack of shark attacks prompts the Western Australian Government to line the coast with baited hooks 1 km offshore in the hope off luring sharks into popular Swimming / Surfing / Diving spots.

“It is hoped that along with the bloodied bait, any hooked, bleeding, traumatised, thrashing sharks will attract more sharks into these, once popular, recreational areas both at Rottnest Island and along the Metropolitan and South West Coastline” – a spokesperson was reported as saying

“This will surely put WA on the Global Map for Non-Eco Tourism, unsafe beaches and drive people away from popular coastal towns, beaches and amenities” – the spokesperson continued.

“We are also hoping the this will educate our children, the future of the state, that wanton destruction of the environment and ecosystems is acceptable and good policy. It is time people moved back inland and on to farms – away from the coastline! It is the only way to keep them away from sharks” – was supposedly added.

“Tight fiscal policies also dictated that we needed to leverage on the huge amount of FREE publicity we get from Shark Attacks and save the States advertising Dollars” the Official was heard to say! “Of course we would be grieving for the victims of increased shark activities from our policies” – ‘nudge nudge wink wink’ – the official supposedly continued.

“The decimation of localised economies on beach fronts would be compensated for by taxes from the increased sales of Pitch Forks and White Hoods with eye holes and the increased spending in rural communities inline with our continued sound policies.”

“This all combined with increased revenue from Taxes resulting from increased sale of alcohol for Binge Drinking, Tobacco Sales (over 50%/packet), More Couches (for the potatoes) and the like from decreased positive social interaction and healthy beach lifestyles will further line the States Coffers. It’s a win win Policy” – the official apparently stated. Continuing – “If people then resort to recreational drugs as a result of a lack of out door activities and the like – we will Tax these also, with further revenue to the state” – I thought I heard him say!

“Driving real estate prices down in these coastal regions and making a coastal life style accessible to the masses and those who have no interest in a ‘sea change’ are further benefits our of Policy” – he continued. “We save money by not having life guards (because no one swims or surfs any more), we can leave beaches polluted and dangerous and have no need to maintain them any more and these sound fiscal policies also benefit the Local Councils – Everyone hates going to the beach or for a swim or a surf, how can you even not know that?” he apparently insisted.

When questioned on Baited Hooks and drawing sharks in to the shore the official apparently replied defensively – “Where do you get your fact’s from that sharks are drawn to baited and bloodied hooks? Show me some evidence! You need to conduct research and come up with proper science before you make claims like that!”

On the subject of the Rottnest Island Swim and removal of the ‘Drum Baits’ the official also had a answer – “We don’t want a masses of people splashing towards Rottnest Island scaring away potential sharks from being caught on these hooks and if any one drowns or decides to swim under water all the way to Rottenest, for something different, and impales themselves on these hooks it would be devastating, and that’s why we are removing them, simple common sense really! The swimmers safety and public safety comes first, well after our ego’s of course” he suggestively continued.

“No matter what you may think the increased Shark Attacks from our Drum Baiting, NOT IF, BUT WHEN they occur and will only serve to put WA on the International Map! Money cannot buy that kind of publicity” – he was reported as stating.

Asked about the cost to the Tax Payer of running the Fisheries boats and Police vessels the official apparently replied – “We are driving the economy, be it into the ground, doesn’t matter – we are still driving the economy!”

What more could you ask for of the State Government’s Fiscal, Tourism and Eco Policies? We simply do not understand why people do not support our plans!” – was reported as his last comment at the Press Conference.
